What’s the Story?
What was your ‘Road to Damascus Experience’? I’ve had two. One was when I first heard the Clash singing Guns of Brixton and the other was when I first saw The Flower Thower by Banksy.
Seven years ago I went to a cracking party in the Midlands (UK) wearing a shirt with a stencil design and had a life changing experience: Someone asked me if the design was a Banksy – so I went home and googled him. The images I saw made me feel like I did when I first heard punk music! I showed my wife Shannon, we sold our cars and started buying Banksies.
Over a few years we built up a great rapport with many of the main Urban Art protagonists including Banksy’s management, Shannon and I were invited to exhibitions in Palestine, Los Angeles and other centres. These were held in obscure locations only revealed to invited guests on opening day.
We’ve been to many stunning shows and had some amazing experiences in the Northern Hemisphere, what we aim to do here is to use that acquired knowledge and our extensive contact base to create something unique and special here.
Our dream is to build a platform where urban artists of all levels can exhibit and visitors can experience the full force of their creativity.
The vision for Oi You! is to create and annual event that’s all about the best of Urban Art, the best from around the world, the best from around the country and the best from the up and coming.
